About Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal human emotion that we all experience. The physiological arousal we experience from it is directly related to our fear of harm. It is a normal reaction to stress and is usually triggered by a situation that involves a decision or judgment.

When faced with a looming deadline for a paper, preparing for an exam or anticipating an upcoming sporting event, nervousness can motivate you to better prepare yourself, push you to complete an assignment on time, overcome fear and carry out a task at peak performance. It helps you deal with a tense situation at the office or to keep focused on an important speech. It can take many forms. Some of the most common ones are fear of public speaking, driving, crowds, air travel, social situations, illness, germs, panic attacks and making mistakes. It is a subjective sense of worry, apprehension, fear and distress.

It is a form of the fight or flight response, when the body and mind become aroused and alert to prepare for attack or to escape from a threat. This nervousness is created by your thoughts or expectations about what is likely to happen. It is an unpleasant emotional state, the sources of which are less readily identified. It is a normal human feeling that is part of life. It can help by providing alertness and readiness, however, excessive agitation can result in stress and hinder your performance.

Anxiety can arise suddenly,as in panic or gradually over minutes, hours or days. It can last for any length of time, from a few seconds to years. It can seem to occur suddenly and "out of the blue," it can be more ongoing or it can come up only in specific situations. It is frequently accompanied by physiological symptoms that may lead to fatigue or even exhaustion. Symptoms of it can also be produced and certainly worsened by artificial means to include caffeine, alcohol, nicotine and poor nutritional habits.

Symptoms can be mild, moderate or severe and can cause physical and emotional symptoms. Although everyone experiences anxiety from time to time,it can become a problem when these feelings begin to interfere with day to day functioning. The physical symptoms include rapid heartbeat, heart palpitations, chest pain, deep breathing, sweating, muscle tension, restlessness, nausea, stomach aches or headache. It can affect your daily sleeping habits. These components combine to create the feelings that we typically recognize as anger and know as fear, apprehension or worry. Fretfulness can produce confusion and memory problems,as well as distortions of reality and the meaning of events.

Anxiety is a common medical condition,a medical illness that Can Be Treated. You are not crazy, you are not weak, you are not doomed because of your genetics or any of those other myths you might have been told. It is sometimes called the hidden disorder because people often are ashamed to admit that they have it and do not tell anyone about it until it becomes overwhelming.

Unease can occur with depressive disorders or substance abuse. Generalized anxiety disorder, social disorder,obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder,post-traumatic stress disorder and phobias are all types of distress disorders. While short bursts of it at a reasonable level can be beneficial, they may motivate a person to perform better. Chronic or severe apprehension can be overwhelming and debilitating, causing academic, professional and/or a social dysfunction. This tension can make people terrified of social situations or give them extreme fears of certain objects or situations.

Treatment of anxiety and stress problems involve people gaining an understanding of how their feelings, thoughts and behaviors are linked. The treatments for this disorder can help people overcome their excessive worrying by relaxing and eliminating the agonizing stress from their minds. An effective treatment for one person may not work at all for another person, while there are several medications on the market today, each person reacts differently to different drugs and dosages. It is best to seek the help of your doctor before deciding what course of action you should take.

Another surprise is that a little anxiety is a good thing, it helps us get things done and keeps us on our toes. Be good to yourself, because you are worth it! Life Is! :)
