Stress, the overwhelming force
Stress is a positive force that enables you to survive. A certain level of it is beneficial and stimulates you to perform well. It can be defined as an emotional or physical demand or strain that causes your body to release powerful brain chemicals and hormones. These changes help your body gear up to respond to the tension. But often we get over taxed and that’s when one has to take a step back and relax for a bit. Tension is the body's automatic response to any physical or mental demand placed upon it. When pressures are threatening, the body rushes to supply protection by turning on the energy and preparing to defend itself. The body responds to strain in order to protect itself from emotional or physical distress,or in extreme situations, from danger. Your personal functioning requirements and the amount which you can tolerate before you become distressed varies with your age and your situation. This is more than a mental or emotional problem. It is typically described as any type of mental stimulus that triggers worry, anxiety and fear. It is the uncomfortable feeling you get when you’re worried, scared, angry, frustrated,or overwhelmed. It is caused by emotions and it affects your mood and body. This tension is all about the subjective response to loss of control.
It is a major contributing factor either directly or indirectly,to coronary artery disease, cancer, respiratory disorders, accidental injuries, cirrhosis of the liver and suicide, the world around. This tension aggravates other conditions such as multiple sclerosis, diabetes, herpes, mental illness, alcoholism, drug abuse and family violence. This tenseness is an unavoidable effect of living and is especially complex in modern technological society. It is not always negative and would therefore be a mistake to concentrate only on its pathological effects. A moderate level of stress can be an important motivational factor and can be instrumental in achieving a dynamic adaptation to new situations and is often the very thing that helps us to make necessary changes in our life like leaving a bad relationship or moving onto a better job opportunity.
Stress can be overwhelming. If you think you might need help, you may want to seek help from a professional counselor or other health professional. Asking for and seeking help is not a weakness. Many folks feel that it is and don’t want anyone to know that they need help.Know about yourself and learn more every day. Life IS! And you are worth it. :)
